MASSNETS "COM1" REPEATER LOCATED ONTOP OF THE JOHN HANCOCK TOWER IN BOSTON HAS BEEN TAKEN OFF THE AIR ......PLEASE SEE NOTICE BELOW

NOTICE TO ALL LISTENERS OF "MASSNET" APRIL 01, 2009

After many long  hours of thought and deliberation we have made a decision we wish we did not have to make. Based upon the recent level of interest in Buffing and the continued reduced level of financial support from our subscriber base we have decided to shut "MassNet" down. The current financial restraints upon us all have just made this to expensive to continue. As some may know the John Hancock was auctioned off on Tuesday and we have already been contacted to re-negotiate our lease. This would most likely lead to an increase in our rent. For the past three years we have taken in less than 25% of the needed funds to support this location and therefore must take this action. For further information please contact us.

ABOUT MASSNET

"MassNet" was originally formed in 1991 by Brian Stephens of Multec Communications as "Bundi" which became one of the first notification systems located on the south shore of Massachusetts.  It was then organized into the "ComNet" system (short for Communications Network) which at the time had the largest area of repeater coverage of any notification system in Massachusetts, without reciprocals.  In April 2003 "ComNet" was purchased from Multec by Bruce McDonald (44) / 3B Communications LTD. and became Massachusetts Notification Network "MassNet."

"MassNet" is a non-profit repeaterized two-way radio system made up of five G.M.R.S. repeaters, licensed under FCC call WPZP663, located in Eastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod which are used by the members of the system for information exchange about public safety and other reportable incidents ongoing within our coverage area. "MassNet's" main repeater "Com 1" which was located in Holbrook is now located on the top of the John Hancock Tower in downtown Boston.

"Com 1" is the primary repeater used for our notification. This repeater is dedicated to notification unlike some other systems we have no other users on our notification repeater. We also have a repeater in Brockton, one in Everett, one in Sudbury, one in Foxborough and one located in Barnstable on Cape Cod.  For repeater information browse the system.

Under the new management of "MassNet" we have made several financial investments in the infrastructure of the system which we hope will help make the system more improved and advanced.   We installed a tone panel on the Barnstable machine allowing us to provide a chat channel on the cape without bothering the notification and of course the latest being the relocation to Boston from Holbrook and the Brockton machine being put on line.

Membership for "MassNet" is $100 per year. This fee goes directly to the maintenance and operation cost of the repeaters and the MassNet system. For your convenience MassNet will now accept credit card and debit card payments for your membership or contact us for payment information. "MassNet" membership provides access to all our repeaters and each member will receive their own mailbox @ MassNotification.org as well as access to all members-only areas of our web site. If you are interested in joining MassNet please fill out a membership application and we will get back to you ASAP. MassNet membership

All persons using the frequencies which "MassNet" operate on are required by FCC laws to have a G.M.R.S. license.  It is your sole responsibility to adhere to these laws. To apply for an FCC G.M.R.S  license or for more info. FCC: Wireless Services: General Mobile Radio Service: GMRS Home

The MassNet membership is made up of all different kinds of people not just public safety personal.  We have men and women of all ages and professions.  "Everyone is welcome."

If you need programming done we can take care of that for you. Vertex/Standard, Midland, Motorola, Kenwood and many others just check with us. For new members we will program one portable and one mobile free of charge.
